What the manufacturer says

Each row is labelled. Known fact means we read it on the linked page; inference means we concluded it from sourced facts; unknown means we could not source it.

PropertyValueBasisDetail
Camera Yes Known fact Meta's camera page lists Oakley Meta HSTN and Oakley Meta Vanguard among its camera glasses with a 12 MP ultra-wide camera and 3K video. Source
Microphone Yes Known fact Meta describes a multi-microphone array across its AI glasses. The exact count per Oakley model is not stated on the page we checked. Source
Capture light Yes Known fact Meta's privacy page states that each of its AI glasses has a white capture LED that blinks while capturing and that the camera is disabled if the LED is covered or tampered with. The page covers the AI glasses range, which includes Oakley Meta. Source
Bluetooth Yes Known fact Meta describes a Bluetooth connection for audio and calls and pairing with the Meta AI app across its AI glasses. Nothing about what the glasses advertise while worn is established by this. Source

Registered Bluetooth identifiers we are researching

These identifiers are registered with the Bluetooth SIG by the companies named. Registration establishes ownership of the identifier, not which products broadcast it or when. We list them because they are the starting point for testing, not because they prove anything about detectability.

IdentifierKindRegistered toNote
0x058E Company identifier Meta Platforms Technologies, LLC (SIG) Same Meta hardware entity as Ray-Ban Meta. Product-level usage unverified.
0xFD5F 16-bit service UUID Meta Platforms Technologies, LLC (SIG) Candidate service UUID; unverified.
0x0D53 Company identifier Luxottica Group S.p.A (SIG) Frame manufacturer; unknown whether used by shipping glasses.

None yet — nothing has been observed by us

When testing is complete, this section will list every export file, the scenario it covers (in case, pairing mode, paired to another phone, recording, and so on), the iOS version and the phone model. The protocol is described on the testing results page.

Limitations

  • Not yet tested on any hardware by us. We have not confirmed that Oakley Meta and Ray-Ban Meta behave identically over Bluetooth; that is an assumption to be tested.
  • Registered identifiers belong to Meta and Luxottica, not to a specific product.
  • Bluetooth signals cannot indicate whether the camera or microphones are active.

Recognising it by eye

Visual cues are general observations to help people who are not relying on any app. They are not detection features.

  • Oakley sport frame shapes (HSTN round-ish, Vanguard wraparound) with thicker temples.
  • Camera lens and LED at the outer corners of the frame front; Vanguard places the camera centrally on the bridge per Meta's product imagery.

What a detection means — and does not mean

A detection means

  • Your iPhone received a Bluetooth Low Energy advertisement whose contents matched one or more entries in our signature catalogue.
  • Each piece of evidence (a company identifier, a service UUID, a name pattern) is shown with its source, so you can judge it yourself.
  • The confidence level reflects how many independent kinds of evidence agreed, not how sure we are that a camera is in use.

A detection does not mean

  • That anyone is recording. Bluetooth advertisements carry no information about camera or microphone activity.
  • That the matched device is definitely smart glasses. Manufacturers reuse identifiers across products; see false positives.
  • That the device is a particular distance away. Signal strength is a coarse proximity hint; see RSSI and distance.
