About
About Smart Glasses Scanner
An independent project with one aim: to let people know, with evidence rather than guesswork, when smart glasses may be nearby, and to be honest about everything that cannot be known.
Mission
Camera glasses are becoming ordinary eyewear. Most people are fine with that most of the time, and would still like to know when one is in the room. Our aim is a tool that gives that awareness in the same spirit as an operating-system privacy indicator: calm, precise, and clear about its limits. Awareness without alarmism.
Principles
- Evidence, not verdicts. Every detection shows the evidence that matched, with its source. Confidence only rises when independent kinds of evidence agree.
- Label everything. Known fact, observed in our testing, inference, or unknown. On this website and in the app.
- Test before claiming. No device is listed as detectable until it has been tested on our own hardware and the results published, favourable or not. Today that means no device is.
- State the limits in the product. The app itself explains that a detection does not mean recording, that no detection does not mean absence, and that signal strength is not distance.
- Privacy by construction. No account, no location, no upload of observations, no tracking across sessions. See the privacy page.
- Clean provenance. Bluetooth SIG registry data is used as the public record it is. Nothing is copied from AGPL or non-commercial projects.
Who
Smart Glasses Scanner is built by an independent developer. There is no company behind it, no investors, and no team page with stock photographs. Manufacturer facts on this site come from the manufacturers' own pages, Apple facts from Apple's documentation, and identifier facts from the Bluetooth SIG; each is linked with the date it was read.
Status
The detection core and an internal research harness are built and unit-tested. Physical hardware testing with Ray-Ban Meta glasses is the next milestone. The consumer app proceeds only if those results justify it; if they do not, the testing results page will say so. The app is not available yet.
Contact
The simplest way to reach the project is to leave your email below; replies to the launch message reach the developer directly. If you are a researcher, teacher or manufacturer with a correction to any fact on this site, we would like to hear it, and corrections are noted with a date on the page concerned.
